Drug “Take-Back” Day in Westport CT
In partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration the Westport Police Department will hold the first nationwide prescription drug “Take-Back Day.”
On Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010 residents of Westport CT will be able to drop off unwanted, expired or unused prescription drugs at a safe location where they can be properly destroyed.
Disposing of old prescriptions is an environmental issue. Many people either flush old medicines down the toilet or throw them in the trash. Both of these methods can cause safety and health concerns.
On September 25, 2010 between 10 am and 2 pm there will be a drop off location at the rear of Westport Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Ave. and it will be a "drive-thru" type setup. People can drive to the back parking lot and drop their old meds into the designated container and then be on their way.
According to an email sent to the Town by the Positive Youth Development group - here is some more information about the event:
The one-day effort is intended to bring national focus to the issue of increasing pharmaceutical substance abuse.
Police noted these points about “Take-Back Day:”
• The program is anonymous
• Prescription and over-the-counter solid dosage medications, i.e. tablets and capsules accepted.
• Intravenous solutions, injectables, and needles will not be accepted
• Illicit substances such as marijuana or methamphetamine are not part of this initiative
The department asked residents to check their medicine cabinets, remove all unwanted, expired or unused medications and participate in this national initiative.
