The Westport Parks and Recreation department holds a lot of fun activities for kids all year round. But in summer these offerings are perfect for filling up a bit of unscheduled time.

One favorite activity is Beach Camp. Located at Compo Beach these one week sessions are held on weekdays from 9 to 3 for kids entering kindergarten through grade 4. The campers are kept busy with lots of different activities. In addition to taking advantage of the shore with some beach and playground time, the kids also do non-"beachy" stuff like arts and crafts, sports, yoga, and even a few field trips.

One of the positive points about this day camp is that the price is very reasonable. But on the downside - campers and their families are at the mercy of the weather - and a day can be cancelled if the conditions are inclement.

For older kids in grades 5 to 8 the Town offers a popular program called the Recing Crew . This follows a format of three days filled with lots fun sporting activities (usually held at one of the middle schools), one field trip (the destination varies depending on the week), and one day spent swimming at Longshore.
